‘Torchwood’ second season finale ‘Exit Wounds’

The episode which brings ‘Torchwood’ second season to an end was entitled ‘Exit Wounds’ and it continued with the stuff left unsolved by the previous episode. ‘Exit Wounds’ received 3.13 million viewers.

We saw that the Torchwood team went to the sites of rift activity. 4 senior police officers had been killed by weevils so Gwen went to the Police Station. Some ghosts are found at the central server building so Tosh and Ianto rushed to the building. They soon found the cause of the threat and shot them. Meanwhile, Owen went to St. Helen’s Hospital.

Captain John began a campaign of terror across Cardiff. He set off powerful explosives that damaged city’s secret nuclear facilities. We also saw the return of the violent captain John Hart. And, the man returned with the only one mission to take revenge on Torchwood. Jack was seen standing against his former friend and encountered John Hart on the hub. In a tough struggle, they both were transferred 2000 years back to the past. The team was separated from Jack and was facing nuclear holocaust…. It was amazing to watch them trying to do their best to save the world. It was really a very emotional season finale…. And it was also hard to believe that they killed two people, including Owen also. I was moved to tears after watching this episode. I am not kinda guy who starts crying after watching emotional stuff on TV but ‘Exit Wounds’ really made me cry. Wholly, ‘Exit Wounds’ was a mixture of comic moments, dramatic moments, sad moments and action moments also.

Well, all episodes of third season of ‘Torchwood’ were brilliant and we enjoyed the show to a great extent. I guess the upcoming episodes would be more entertaining and enjoyable ones.

As of now, we all have set our sights on the third season of series which is likely to premiere this summer.

Torchwood: the show with a difference

I have given this title to my blog, because I personally feel so and I am sure there must be many who will agree with me. The series has successfully completed two seasons and the third one is under production. The third season of the series will hit the screen in 2009. Anyways, let’s just get back to the reason why I like the series. One reason that I like the series is that it is very different from the rest. Okay, you might just say that they write this for every second series. But, there is one more reason behind my liking the series and that is what really counts. I like the series for the different themes that are portrayed in the series. This is one series, that, I have come across in the long time that has some meaningful themes attached to it.

The first major theme that is discussed in the series is homosexuality; they have even shown scenes like Toshiko and Mary kissing, as a part of this theme. This is a very contemporary issue that very less series talk about. The next theme that is very prominent in the series is issues related to religion. The series under religion takes up issues like redemption, Christian imagery and existentialism. Above all, they talk of human life from a completely different view and even a very common issue of corruption is talked about on a large scale in the series. I don’t think there is any other series that talk about such issues and that also so prominently.

Well, if you ask me frankly, the series remind me of my college days. These all issues were a part of my course and the novels that were there in my course. Whenever, I watch the series it gives me the impression that the creators and the writers have really done an in-depth study of their material and then they give it to their viewers. I really appreciate the efforts of the people who work behind the screens to make the series a success.

‘Torchwood’, what’s next vs. what’s previous!

Okay, let’s first see, what’s next…

Congrats buddies! Now, it’s officially confirmed that Captain Jack and his whole team would return for another season. Well, the statements of show’s representatives put an end to continuous rumors of the cancellation of the British Science Fiction Drama. ‘Torchwood’, the award winning series, will be premiered on BBC America, just after the UK premiere in spring 2009. But, as I’ve already told you, there’ll be just five episodes, during this season. Season 3 is being called ‘Torchwood: Children of Earth’. Well, production of this very highly anticipated drama has begun in Cardiff, Wales.

Looking in past, reminds me of Second season finale ‘Exit Wounds’ aired on April 4, 08. Really, it was a very emotional episode and in this episode we also see the return of violent Captain John Hart. He’s back to take revenge on Torchwood. Jack reunites with his brother whom he lost many years ago. Gray, not so forgiving, buries Jack alive and takes the lives of 2 very important persons to him. Truly, a very good season finale!

As of now, I’m just thinking about the upcoming episodes. Yesterday, I tried hard but I didn’t get any details of upcoming episodes… not even the names also. I think, they people are extra smart. They’re increasing our curiosity and have left us hanging around with no details. Ahhh…. It’s not fair man!

Hey! Do you know who’ll appear as guest stars this season. Well, I do know. Most probably, we’ll see Peter Capaldi, playing Mr. Frobisher; Paul Copely playing Clem, the survivor; and also Liz May Brice portraying Johnson, the secret government agent. Yeah, hopefully, we’ll also see John Barrowman, once again as the dashing bi-sexual adventurer Jack Harkness.

Wow!! It’s great, man. But, I know, it’s hard to wait more. Hey! You can cut off your wait watching the previous episodes of ‘Torchwood’ here. Actually, that’s what I am doing to avoid my boredom.

Only Five Episodes?

Every Torchwood fan must be unhappy with this news that the new season is bringing only five episodes, though the previous two seasons had thirteen episodes each. Hey! Never mind, because this is only the third season which has five episodes and the fourth season will rather contain full thirteen episodes. This has been confirmed by John Barrowman portraying Captain Jack Harness, when he attended Comic con and book Soup in July.

The reason is BBC has shifted this series to BBC1 for the third season and it’s their top channel and they don’t want to bother about introducing characters once again, so they are bringing it with five episodes only so that in the fourth season, viewers will be familiar with the characters.

There are speculations that the other reason is budgetary. Actually all the three series of BBC, ‘Doctor Who‘, ‘Torchwood’ and ‘Sarah Jane Adventures’ have same budget, cast and crew so they had to cut down somewhere. So the situation was either there would be five episodes or there would be no season. So, we are lucky enough to get five episodes.

Here is another supposition that may be BBC is not yet ready to commit to this show, as it has remained in controversies due to portrayal of sex. But I think despite these controversies, people liked the concept of this show and that’s why the third season had to come. But it had been better if BBC would have trusted its fans and had brought, a season full of episodes.

I hope our opinions and comments left on entertainment sites would work well to urge these guys to bring more seasons with shorter gaps. So keep commenting………

Sizzling season one

Whenever I watch ‘Torchwood’ episodes, it seems like I am reading different chapters of a comic book series. Some stories in the season one are closely similar to comic book series, especially episodes like, ‘Cyber Woman’, ‘They Keep Killing Suzie’, ‘Combat’ and finale episode, ‘End of Days’.

Season one is a sizzling season with lot many interesting happenings including 3d images of the monsters, check out Weevils in ‘Combat’ and giant Abaddon in ‘End of Days’. It has amazing special effects, well woven stories leaving no questions or doubts behind and wonderful acting as well as direction, the bottom-line is, this show is fantastic and is my most favorite.

The story was pretty catchy from the very first episode. In ‘Everything Changes‘, ‘Torchwood’ group and its proceedings are introduced. Their hi-tech hub is really impressive with sidewalk slab lift with a perception field which leads to ‘Roald Dahl Plass’ and allows the user to become invisible to the passersby.

In second episode ‘Day One’ Gwen joins the Torchwood team and they fight with a gaseous alien, who enters female body to soak up energy of male victims. In every episode, these guys introduce either a strange gadget or a mysterious alien; this is the thing which has kept me bound with the show till now.

Although second season went well, but still I found the first season as more adventurous and happening. The Cyber Woman episode is similar to a comic book story, which I read in my childhood. In that comic book there was a scientist, who was trying to bring his wife back to life with the help of electric power, after she died due to a heart attack. But, like the woman in this episode, she turned into an energy hungry monster that started absorbing all the electricity from power stations.

In ‘Small Worlds‘, here is a very interesting story of Fairies, who find a girl child as their ‘chosen one’ and are keen to convert her into fairy. The Torchwood team works hard to save her but they have to bow down at last. You know when the episode started I was imagining traditional fairies, wearing white gowns and a silver crown on head, but these fairies are more like a monster with long and sharp ears. But this episode was really weird.

‘Out Of Time’ is the excessively emotional episode of the season. Here three people return from the future, which they had unknowingly entered through the rift. When they return in contemporary times, they find it difficult to deal with changed life styles and one of them commits suicide.

You will find something fresh in every episode of this season and that’s why I prefer to watch these episodes, whenever I come here to download. This season is tremendously good!
