Show Summary
Torchwood seasons are British science fiction drama created by Russell T Davies. Its theme music has been composed by Ben Foster and performed by Murray Gold. Production companies BBC Wales has produced the show in association with executive producers Julie Gardner and Davies while distribution duties are handled by BBC Worldwide. Originally, it has been broadcast on BBC HD, BBC Three, BBC Two and BBC One channels in 1080p (HDTV) and 576i (PAL) picture format. Torchwood season 1 was premiered on 22nd October, 2006. Officially, it is a spin off of long-running television series Doctor Who.
Torchwood seasons move around fictional Torchwood Institute. It’s a Cardiff branch and basically deals with extraterrestrial incidents on Earth. This covert agency is separate from police and the government. They are just known as ‘special ops’ to general public and forages alien technology for their own use.
In the very beginning of the show, Torchwood’s headquarters in London gets destroyed. Captain Jack Harkness is Torchwood Three’s commander-in-chief and leads a team of five operatives. He is heterosexual and falls in love with Jack. He kisses and dances with her in a party in front of all guests and servicemen when he comes to know that she will die soon.
Owen Harper, Unit’s medical officer; Toshiko Sato, computer specialist; Suzie Costello, and Ianto Jones help in forming the base of the show before getting killed at different times.

Torchwood seasons have won BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Actress and TV Quick Award for Best New Drama. It has also been nominated by Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films - Saturn Award for Best International Series; BAFTA Cymru Award or Best Actor; GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Drama Series; and Hugo Awards for Hugo Best Dramatic.
On the basis of the show, many books and novels, in paperback-sized hardcover format, were published by BBC. Shows audio tracks composed by Murray Gold and Ben Foster were released by Silva Screen Records on 22nd September, 2008.
Torchwood got 74, 81 and 80 ratings out of 100 for its season 1, 2 and 3 respectively. With 2.519 million viewers, these were the highest ratings ever got by any digital-only non-sports channel as it was aired on BBC three and it remained the most viewed show on the channel. Torchwood season 3 ended on 10th July, 2009.
